WD40 is a great solvent. The stovetop hood in my last apartment was
caked with grease so bad when I moved in that no household cleaning
agent would touch it. I had some WD40, but no turpentine, mineral
spirits, acetone, or other solvents on hand. Sprayed it on heavy and
let it soak for a couple of hours. The grease wiped right off.
