Having many servers is a good idea, but that's still limited to
testing your connection's ability to do speed tests. If that the only
thing YOU do on the internet?

Why would you assume that because someone tested their connection
speed that is the only thing they do on the net? Kind of a big leap,
don't you think?

I never claimed it is the only thing they do. But many dozens of emails
proclaiming the latest speed and the constant angst when the speedtest
shows they are seeing 2.1% less than someone else is a good indicator it
is the primary thing they do.

Notice that I didn't say that. I said that the (speed test site
results) show ONLY the speed while performing speed tests. That is,
the results are accurate IF that is all you do. Please read.

Interesting you mentioned that. Lots of people are into bragging rights.
The various upper tiers that ISPs have play right into that. I know some
people who obsess about "important" things like having the
biggest, fastest etc that will buy whatever the highest speed is
available and do endless speed tests just to verify what they have.

I have the basic Optimum Online cable - I didn't pay for anything
extra and I don't even know if that is offered to tell you the truth.
So I was curious to see what sort of speed I'm getting. For a local
server, the 'recommended' server from netspeed or whatever the OP
posted about is in NY, so it's local for me, and I got over 11 Mb/s
download and about a third of that upload. I next tried Chile and
Singapore to see what difference there'd be. Chile was around 6 Mb/s
down, and about a third of that up, Singapore was also around 6 down,
but only a tenth of that up.

Kind of interesting, but it really doesn't mean anything as I find the
individual sites I'm accessing are the bottleneck, and all computers
and connections wait at the same speed - slow.
