Default Epson EMP-TW720 projector problem

A friend has the above mentioned projector. The bulb decided it din't
want to play any more so he ordered a new bulb. The wrong bulb arrived
(unknowning to him I think) & when he plugged it in the wire on the
back of the bulb shorted out against the case and that bulb only
wanted to play for about 3 seconds before it blew. So he ordered
another bulb and got the proper one this time. He installed the bulb
but the projector would not even show signs of powering up. He asked
me to have a look so I automatically popped it open to look for the
blown fuse. Found the fuse and replaced it. The projector power now
turns on, the power light blinks its green dot for about a minute and
then stays on solid indicating it's now working. Nope, no light output
from the lens. The bulb is rated 170W 80V. I metered at the conection
to the bulb and had the 80V at the bulb but still no light output.
I've dealt with tv's, radios, computers, digital left handed nostril
inhalers (not really but figured if you read this far you deserve to
at least get a chuckle), full flight simulator systems (the big $25
million military type & not the PC version), etc... but I have not had
any dealings with a projector like this before. Is there some sort of
ballast or something I should be checking too since this is a mercury
lamp in the beast? Any helpful pointers are gratefully accepted since
these bulbs are about $600 each. Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Lawrence
