I am moving into my new house soon, and I will be painting the rooms.

Any suggestions on brands of paints and primer?

Go to a real paint store, not the big box stores and they will assist you
with the proper tools and paint. Don't buy a cheap brush. Get a good one
and it will last you many years and, more importantly, will work better
along the way. Same with roller covers.

Any of the major brands should be OK. Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams,
Pittsburgh, etc. You can either zip through with a plain primer, or have
some of the primer tinted so the finish coat is a bit richer and tiny spots
missed won't show.

Ceiling first, then walls, then trim. That good brush will allow you to do
the cut in freehand too.

A low luster egg shell or satin usually looks best and clean easily. High
gloss looks too commercial.

Take a look at the March 2008 Consumer Reports on paint.
Some of the favorites changed position, like BM which I used for
years,
moved down in some categories. Nothing drastic, but you might want
to check out that report for the latest on the type of paint -- not
brand --
TYPE of paint you plan to use.

Good luck!
