I generally avoid responding to eBay postings, but they have initiated so
many new bad ideas, so I'll add my mostly negative comments.
I haven't sold on eBay for several years, and I'm fairly sure I wouldn't
want the aggravation.

My guess/suspicion is that eBay is promoting China sellers with a sort-of
most favored trading partner/nation status.
If you've read any of their web pages concerning the newly-established
(mostly Hong Kong) China sellers, the staff/management of eBay are bragging,
boasting and patting themselves on the back for getting the selling channels
set up.

I've tried including search terms such as -hong -kong -hongkong, and this
doesn't eliminate the HK sellers from the search results.

The HK sellers aren't categorized or separated as International Sellers
(like the UK and other locations are) so the listings may look like they're
domestic, but they're not.

The other stunt that's used is to place US Seller or Ships From USA (or
similar) in the ad, with a US city listed as the location of the
goods/seller, but it takes longer to get the item, and the postmark is from
mainland China.

Why is is neccessary to conceal the origin, when we can be fairly certain
that the item was produced in China anyway?

So eBay is at least condoning these practices (promoting and assisting, it
seems) as a deception toward the buyers.

It seems that very soon, the only goods worth buying on eBay will be used
commercial or industrial surplus (which there are still good buys on).

My guess is that in a couple of years, about 90% or more of the listings on
eBay will be cheap trinkets and crappy quality consumer goods from China,
and very few items of real interest for most of the types of folks that hang
around RCM.

All of it is just more filler for landfills here, shortly after purchase.
There have got to be new career opportunities in waste management.

I'm glad that the underdeveloped countries are involved in economic growth,
I just don't appreciate them being given preferential breaks again, again
and again.

Many folks are still parrotting "the stuff costs less because the wages are
so low over there" (over there meaning not here in the USA).

What a bunch of bull****, those huge ships run on fuel and require
maintenance.

Has anyone ever heard of a stranded cargo ship in the Pacific in recent
years?
Goog results for "stranded cargo ship"+Pacific returns 47 results, some
which aren't even about shipping.
The results for "stranded shipping"+Pacific are 7, nothing related to
shipping breakdowns or disasters.

The raw materials and energy required to manufacture goods have a value..
circuit boards, components and hardware fabrication all cost some amount,
and solder and plastics don't flow without heat.

The Chinese government is subsidizing manufacturing, and it seems that eBay
wants to be China's online catalog.

Some time ago, eBay disallowed guns and almost anything that resembles a
bullet, but they promote copied products, with no testing agency safety
approvals (or bogus UL labels) without conscience or any product liability,
or so it seems.
