I built a photo booth for shooting my turnings, which really helps
getting the lighting right.

Take a large cardboard box, and cut out the centre of two sides. Leave
the back intact. Tape white kitchen trash bag plastic over the cutouts,
and line the back and floor (with the opening toward you on the bench)
with white paper. Use shop lights to shine through the plastic for a
diffuse light.

I took a scrap of wood and drove a 2" finishing nail through it so I
can take the refills out of the pens and stand them up on the nail to
get a better pic.
