UL is a privately owned, for profit business.

" The UL Mark does not carry any legal weight beyond that of any other
trademark."

So it is quite different from CE marking or the legally compulsory
laboratory type approval and marking of electrical /electronic appliances
and devices on the " prescribed items " list.
