Do people build an add-on brick chimney up the side of a house?

My latest idea to get a wood-burning stove! Having seen several
stainless flues externally mounted up the side of the house I have to

wondering if it has been done before, namely to construct a proper
brick chimney up the side of the house, tying it in with the existing
brickwork. Would PP be required?

Commonly done for barn conversions. Built with 4 sides I would have
thought, not 3 sides against the wall, and tied into the side of the
building. You may still need a flue liner.
I would expect planning permission to be required, since in my area at
least, it is not included in the guidelines for things that do not !
Especially if it will change the "street scene" in any way.
