Have small counter top of 3/4" granite. Want to attach from underneath
but do not have set of granite "tools". Thinking of buying a 1/2"
granite capable drill bite, boring partially into underside of
granite, then use epoxy to glue a barrle nut which I could then bolt
into from below.

Q: Is that sane and does it work?

Don't bother. *Silicone will hold it in place just fine. *Just make
sure all of your cabinets are level.

If you have a dishwasher get the brackets to side-mount it into the
cabinets.

Slab is only 40" by 16" but application is as a table saw surface not
as a countertop. There will be more vibration and shearing forces
versus just setting something on it as you would in a kitchen. Looks
like a hole filled with JB Weld to secure the insert will work based
on other web sites.
