Default How can this be, that lack of video in an audio box could interfere with video?

How can this be, that lack of video in an audio box could interfere
with video?

Leapfrog used to make a volume controller, so the ads on tv wouldn't
be louder than the program, but there were no more afaict when I
started looking for it a couple years ago.

Does anyone have any experience with a device that does this?

Tonight I came across one by Terk for only 24 to 40 dollars. However:

The first review says
"Strengths: none
Weaknesses: Does not include all necessary cables, has to sit on tv,
and most importantly does not syncronize audio signal with video
signal so there was vertical white lines when hooked up to sharp
plazma tv.
Summary: Because the Terk has only audio cables and no video cables it
did not process the video and there were picture distortions, however
there is a product out there called the Automatic TV Sound Regulator
that I purchased that works perfectly and synscs the audio with the
video for distortion free viewing."

He seems maybe?? to be saying that the absence of video in this audio
box could delay the audio so it didn't match the picture. Do you
think this could happen?

But on second look, he seems maybe not to be saying that but that the
video is distorted and has vertical white lines in it, because of this
audio box. This seem really hard to understand. Is there something
about plasma tvs that would make it possible?

Since I don't have plasma, I'm ready to buy this regardless of how it
worked for him, but I would like to understand how it could cause the
problems he describes.

The other guy gave it 3 stars out of 5, not sure it worked all the
time.
