Default Mains electrical Q: transformer sizing?

That's a misconception. If you'd turned the oven ON before
powering the transformer, the fuse would'nt blow. The 'load'
that is important is the magnetic field in the transformer, which
depends on input current MINUS scaled output current.

Line current diminishes with increasing load current? You might
wanna re-think that.

MMF due to secondary current does oppose MMF produced by the primary,
so primary current must increase accordingly to maintain flux density
and EMF.
