What is the correct response when you find that your wife has been
using a

1/4" wood chisel to pry open paint cans?

Bonus question: She asked me why the tip had the little plastic
cover.

To answer the question I need more information:

How did she get the key to the shop?

I don't really do a lot of woodworking. Thus I have no "shop". The chisel
was in the toolbox. I had bought it to trim a 2x4 in order to install an
electrical receptacle.

I am thinking of taking up woodworking when I retire. Do you really need a
shop, of just a corner in the basement?

Was the plastic tip lost?

No. I used a dremel to put a straight edge back onto the chisel, warned my
wife about sharp it was, and introduced her to the special paint can opener
tool, also in the tool box.

Did the chisel end up with paint on it?

No. She was using a proper paint stick to stir the paint.

Was the chisel put back in the proper spot?

No, I caught her blue-handed.
