According to census data in the year 2000 there were 1,847,181 housing
unites in Louisiana. This represents a 7.6% from 1,716,241 in 1990.

Of those housing units, 1,331,862 were located in either urbanized
areas or urban clusters, and 515,319 were located in what is
classified as a rural area.
