I don't think you have your facts correct.

As I recall, you can read the information from a distance while a RFID
reader is ALSO reading your document (distance of inches). In other
words, as you hand the passport to the machine to read, a covert
reader (sniffer) can be 20 feet away.


That's a completely different scenario than from a remote reader 20
feet away, trying to read a passport in your pocket.

He may be wrong with the distance reading but pick pockets have bumped into
people for years to lift their wallets. Bumping into you to scan your RFID
seems even easier. Look ma, no hands
