It's human nature. When faced with something inexplicable, evolution has
caused our brains to be uncomfortable until a plausibe explaination is
forthcoming. This explains things from primitive religions to the Kennedy
shooting, to the World Trade Center attack.

Where the kookiness comes in is the suspension of rationality.

Arguing with a kook is pointless because they have a nugget of truth to
their position (there was an eclipse, Kennedy was shot, WTC did come down)
and when you suggest a different conclusion from theirs, they believe you
are denying that essential nugget.

They can't be cured.

No, the very best thing one can do with a kook is elect them to public
office where they can hold meaningless hearings and not **** with normal
folk.
