Please turn your brightness down immediately (before you carry on trying to
diagnose/repair),
you do not want it running without vertical deflection, as very soon that
line will burn into the screen.

I'm having another problem with my 27" Zenith Sentry 2. The picture
tube only shows a narrow slit of light across the middle of the tube.
This is evidently part of thr picture it should be showing.
Occasionally the whole picture will flash on for a few seconds, bright

Cracked solder joint in the vertical output section, it's an easy fix if
you quit using it now before it burns the phosphors in the tube.
