It's a small washroom on main floor of 2 storey house.
I'd rather try myself if I can 1) drill a hole on stucco without cracking
the exterior wall, and 2) get a wire from switch to the fan (in between
joist as you suggested).

Hmmm,
Bathroom upstairs, downstairs, or in basement. Installing a new one or
replacing? It can be done by yourself. Decide what type first, fan only or
fan with heat lamp combo which needs more room.
