Masonite is considerably harder and denser than MDF. It's typically available
in thicknesses of 1/8" (3mm) and 1/4" (6.3mm) in the U.S., whereas MDF
normally is no thinner than 1/2".
In South Africa we get standard and tempered (denser and a bit more
moisture resitent) Masonite in 3.2mm and 6.4mm
MDF is availavle in 3mm, 4mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 16mm, 19mm, 24mm.
Although we used to make most of it here a lot of is now imported from
Brasil. Sheet sizes are either 1220 x 2440 (4 x 8) for the thinner
sizes to 1830 x 2750 (6 x 9) for the thicker stuff.
