Default Musing about turning simple sphericons.

So far Charlie has received the same response to his multi-axis threads
that I got from my posts re sphericons a couple of years ago; namely,
what the little boy shot at. I had looked forward to more responses to
Charlie's enthusiastic threads, but then I didn't respond either. Sorry
to bore y'all, but I'm gone try again with sphericons. I heard those
groans!

For rcw types, David Springett's articles in "Woodturning" no's. 135
and 136 in which he detailed his development of sphericons into his
turned wood "streptohedrons" is a good starting place. I know more
about streptococci than streptohedrons, but he tells me that he hasn't
published further articles re these geometric oddities, but will have a
section in his forthcoming book. Till then and to get everyone still
awake up to speed, you might want to google "sphericons" or go to:

I haven't attempted boxes or the advanced concepts, but the simple
sphericons are easily turned, sllced, twisted and glued using my
ordinary tools and my ordinary brain. Just left solid, (sphericons not
my brain) they are fascinating to contemplate and roll around the table
top, sort of like spin tops.

I hope Charlie and others will try them and share their takes, just
maybe you'll like them. If not, I'll shut up and stop trying to get
y'all to break symmetry, at least for another year.
