I think they should list filter change recommendations in hours (e.g.
filter good for 300 hours of use).

number of hours the filter was used since it was last changed).

How's about 'change it when it's ******* dirty' ?

This will require ******* LOOKING AT IT once in a while, and
making a DECISION.
