Default Nintendo-DS - LCD "scrambles" at high backlight

Nintendo DS-Lite working perfectly before...

Dropped from low height (fell off a bed) was in a padded case
but still cracked glass over lower LCD (very fragile). Otherwise
appeared to work OK, but quickly developed an odd sympton:

Lower LCD will "scramble" - goes to black & white and shows
vertical lines which move around with the video.

Odd thing is, at low backlight setting (1 of 4) LCD is fine, works
at 2, at 3 it "scrambles" and stays that way until it is reduced to
1 again, where it *usually* sorts itself out. (Once gone, returning
to 2 does not clear it).

Although this happened at the time of the drop, it does not
appear to be physical - tap on the unit, screen, bottom, sides,
anywhere at low LCD setting and it stays fine with not a flicker.
Hold it rock steady and raise LCD setting and it will die.

"feels" like a power problem - higher backlight setting sapping
a power supply - but remainder of unit (including upper screen)
continue to function with no visible effects, not even a flicker) - Lack
of physical response would tend to rule out a bad connection
induced by the fall ....

Any ideas? Known issues with this symptom?

Dave
