Why cover when you can use the beam as an interest point in the room?

Get a textured metal paint - you know, faux bronze or crackled or some
such - paint the beam. Or paint it with a vine stencil.

Or place a really nice artificial plant vine made of silk along the
web. Run a line of the really small bookcase lights facing upwards
along the bottom of the web to add ambient light to the room. Play
with that space - it could be very cool!
