just come up with something on my own, after all, it ain't rocket
science. So, decided to glue up some of the oak flooring the older son
gave me, overlapping pieces, tracing my present cane, and go from there.

Before I started gluing up, found out the pieces of flooring
weren't really square at the ends. No prob, I got a power mitre saw
from HF awhile back. It works great. Found out that if I just zip thru
the pieces, it leave a slightly splintery cut. Cutting thru a bit
slower gives a nice smooth non-splintery cut. I May be able to finish
up the glueup tomorrow, maybe the next day. Then I get the fun of
shapping it.

I talked to the older son this evening, and mentioned it to him.
He asked if I was going to round it in my lathe. Slap forehead, say the
obligatory"Doh". Never even thought of it. But, no prob. I'll get it
cut then run it thru the planer a few passes - should probably have
done that before the glue up, but forgot. Nex time. Anyway, once I've
got the thing cut out I'll probably round it with a surform. I figure
I'll probably wind up making at least one or two more, spares you know,
so this one is basically a learning experience.

Got the wood free, all this will be costing me is a minimal cost
for the glue, and my time. Can't beat that. Not sure if I'll leave it
natural, or thin some latex paint way down, and use it as a stain -
custom color mixed, of course.
