Default Replacing old main drain pipe

I'm not a plumber..........but I did have to replace the terra cotta pipe
(that stuff is worth less than the poop that is going down it) going from my
house to the city street interceptor line. I assume that you are having to
replace it because of tree roots and/or collapse as I did. I would be
willing to bet that the line under the patio is just fine and dandy unless
you have done "tests" and determined that this is not the case. There are
rubber (or some other suitable material) collars that connect good terra
cotta to PVC. Seems like the solution is to start digging at the patio edge
and replace all pipe from there to the interceptor (or to a point you deem
is appropriate).

Just my "shade tree" $.02........
