We outnumbered them 3:1 when we blockaded Cuba. A lot of those ships were
from WWII and were soon retired. They tripled their number after that, and
by the late-70s outnumbered us 3:1.

And you don't understand the missile gap at all. Ike the Republican ordered
the U2 flights that confirmed it was not real. The Dems used it as a
campaign issue anyway because they are political opportunists. Just like
JFK used info from his secret briefing on Cuba to score a point in one of
the debates.

But by the 70s they also surpassed us in ICBMs.
