Erm! no I'd use a telescope for that.

With the single lens (per eye) type (e.g. from Chronos), the lower the
"magnfication" the longer the working distance. The ones surgeons use are
actually little telescopes so could potentially be focussed for quite high
magnification several feet away, and there are applications which use these.
They are much more expensive.

You really have to specify what you mean by "near".
