Default Question on rough sawn lumber

John,

Just curious - where abouts is he located in NC?

I just tried my hand at buying some rough sawn lumber. He said that it
has been drying for about 3 months so far. I got 16 ea. Ash, 5/4 x 8"
x 100" for $100.00 @ $1 BF. He gave a little extra, for that amount,
if I figured it correctly, should have been $111.00. He also gave me 5
ea. Hickory (he said to experiment with) 5/4 x 8 x 136" He also gave
me for free, 3 ea Ash 5/4 x 12 x 110".

I gave 2 of the Hickory and one 12" wide Ash to my neighbor for
taking me over there. With all the freebies I got, it ended up being
around .61 a BF for the wood. It looks like he just starting up the
business.

So the question now is, was this a good price for the rough sawn
lumber? Or is this just a going price for it?

If there is anyone in or near south eastern NC and want some, here is
what he has. He said pine is going for .50 BF and white oak is selling
for $1.50 BF, but quoted me $1.25 if I wanted any. He said that he can
take orders to cut up to 28" wide, your logs or his. Here is a list of
lumber that he has in stock right now, his name and number.
white oak
red oak
hickory
ash
pecan
soft maple
cypress
pine
