Whatever caused it, it's beautiful!
I think it would be phenomenal as a piece of furniture or something where
you can really see the beauty.

When you build something from it, I hope you'll post pictures and I don't
miss them.

Sorry about the poor pictures; the rough surface doesn't help display the
figure either.

It looks like an army of ants crawling over the surface, but sometimes it
just presents itself as a curl in the grain. All of the samples happen to be
quartersawn. Actually it looks a lot like figure on the birch vase on the
front of LV's most recent small catalog.

If this were a meduliary ray, I would expect to see this figure much more
frequently than 5/250 boards. If it's the result of a pathogen, it clearly
infected the tree for dozen years of more. Climate? over a dozen years?
doubtful.

So, does this have a name and is there a known cause?
