I wouldn't recommend using a rigid sleeve. It makes alignment too
critical.
Use something like a Lovejoy flexible coupling. You can get one end with
the
5/8 bore and one end with the 1 1/8 bore and a neoprene spider to go in
the
middle. That way it only takes a few minutes to bolt them together and
line
them up without having to get the two shafts in perfect alignment.
