the fact that the US "intelligence" services gave up the investigation of
the antrax mail attacks, after finding that the material used originated
from the US military, suggests to me that anyone in the US concerned about
terror attacks should have good reason to be worried!

finally we have the obvious fact that the major effects of a dirty bomb, are
well documented, as the US/uk have already illegally used many tons of
enhanced munitions on several countrys in recent attacks in the "war on
terror"!

And the results are? Do be precise, use as much paper as necessary in
your expose on DU weapons.

One should note..that any tango worth his dinars would not bother
using DU as the dirty component.

Well, lets see.... lets look at the possibilities. The two most
important things to know, was it an air burst or a ground burst? And
are you upwind or downwind?

First of all, unless you have your Mr. Geiger Counter on your belt and
turned on..you are gonna know about the same time as everyone else
learns that it was a dirty bomb, not your average plain jane bombing.
This could be 20 minutes to the next day, depending on how good the
authorities are and how much they want to prevent panic.

A dirty bomb is a conventional explosive wrapped with radioactive
material, medical materials, reactor waste, etc etc. Its highly
unlikely to be ground into a fine powder as most of the suitable
materials will be solid metallic materials. But for the sake of
argument, lets say our tangos managed to grind it up into a powder...
This stuff will have some weight to it. In fact, it will be heavy as
hell.

Air burst will spread it a short distance, depending on how high it
was detonated. With an explosive core of something like RDX, we can
expect some dust to be generated, but even the dust will be heavy and
settle out very quickly. Ground burst will spread it over a very
small area, and Id have to make a best guess of less than a few city
block footprint, even with a huge amount of explosives.

So lets take best case sceanario here....

If you are upwind and more than a few blocks away..leave the area, go
home and turn on the tube and watch the festivities with a cold beer.

Worst case scenario:
Mustapha has told you that in 2 minutes he will detonate a dirty bomb,
so when you hear the bang upwind..you will know what it was.

First thing you do is get under something in case pieces of the truck,
car, airplane don't kill you on the way back to earth from the
intitial explosion. While ducking for cover, use your shirt to cover
your mouth and nose. Several layers of tight woven material wetted
down is best. Dont have any water handy? **** works just fine. And
its sterile, though it might not smell great. Shrug

Standard dust control practice, Got a painters mask handy? It will
work just fine. If you are down wind, walk perpendicular to the wind,
so you are walking out of the foot print of the dust fallout. Soon as
you are a few blocks away..find the nearest source of running water
you can, and hose yourself off really well. Go home. Take off your
clothes outside the front door. Then take a hot soapy shower make a
real point to wash hair well, grab a beer, and watch the festivities
on the tv.

If you are driving, turn off your AC, close the windows and all vents.
Cover mouth and nose with fabric, drive out of the area. Go home,
hose off vehicle really well, go inside, take hot soapy shower, wash
hair really well, grab beer, watch the tv. Dont get back into the car
until its been check for hot spots. If you have any pets outside,
wrap them in a sheet, carry them into the shower and soap and wash
them well. Put the now wet sheet into a plastic bag along with your
clothes, and toss them outside, along with the towels etc. All you
need to do is keep the dust down and out of your house as much as
possible.

There will be few if any deaths from the radiologicals of a dirty
bomb, unless they are handling debris in the immediate area. The blast
is of more immediate danger.

The use of a dirty bomb is for two reasons. Terror. Area denial.

A few dozen firetrucks with foam in the hoses will pretty well
decontaminate (flush it into the storm drains) the debris from such a
bomb. The fallout foot print will be pretty small and the amounts of
high dosage radiologicals will be pretty small, and it wont go very
far due to its weight. Such a weapon is best used where a lot of
people are gathered, or in an area you wish to force its closure for a
week or two. Sporting event, downtown street parade, a school, for
example.

The radiologicals used in dirty bombs will have long half lives and
hence are not very energetic. Remember they are made from materials
handled regularly by medical workers (cesium, etc ) or spent fuel
rods. Its not like they are going to be short half life radiologicals
generated in a nuke blast.

I should mention,,that if your home is in the footprint and you are
away from it..dont go there. Go visit a friend, rent a motel room
(quickly..they will be filled up with evacuies very quickly)

If you are home and in the footprint, close all doors and windows.
Close the flue in your fireplace. Grab a beer and watch the tv. If you
absolutly have to flee, make sure your commuter or bug out bag is in
the trunk of your car..oh..I forgot..you think thats bull****...never
mind. If you have to evac, follow the above, cover mouth and nose,
evac to outside the foot print, flush with lots of water, shower well
and wash hair well, etc etc.

with the increasingly aggressive attacks on (mainly Muslim) sovereign
states, perpetrated by the US, and its lap dog the uk, in pursuit of
purely
economic aims, it does seem likely that dirty bomb attacks by any one of
many terror groups, are certainly on the cards in the very near future!

Gee. Then perhaps its best if you did pay attention to getting a
commuters bag..or as we call it..a BOB (bug out bag) handy.

But then..you evidently expect to die like a cow at a slaughter
house, so dont bother. Step outside, smoke a cigar, take deep breaths,
scream invective at the Republicans (and all the Liberals who voted to
go after Al Quida, Bill Clinton for gutting the HUMINT budgets) etc
etc.

Me, Ill take the few steps necessary to survive the event in comfort.
There are a few things you cannot provide for..such as an extinction
event asteroid, etc etc....but hey..whatever floats your boat. And you
can blame it on Bush when that big rock comes screaming in at a couple
hundred kilometers a second.

With luck, you will be within a hundred yards of the dirty bomb blast
and the Ryder truck differential will be blown though your windshield,
breaking your spine crushing your chest and belly, and you get to die
slowly while sucking in lots and lots of dust.

Ill enjoy watching you die slowly on TV, in glorious living color,
while drinking a cold soda and chuckling at your agony. You wont even
have a gun handy to finish yourself off with before the pain gets to
bad. Hummm maybe you can open a vein and bleed out before the agony of
the ruptured spleen and intestinal sack and the shattered spine gets
too bad. But then...with luck it will be a high break in your
vertibrae, and you will be paralized and cant even chew a hole in your
own wrist....
