I'm about ready to go down to the market with an AK-47 and attack
the canned meat department I'm so sick of spam in my mailbox.

What does a person get to help lessen this aggravation? I'm
computer savvy, but don't want anything that is going to take a lot
of time every day. I also don't want to set it up so that I ONLY
get messages from people I list, as that would make it as difficult.

I've heard of Agent, and perhaps it's time to spend the time I need
to learn this program.

But, instead, is there a downloadable (free) program that works
good, or a good (cheap) program.

It's gotten so bad, I've almost quit eating fried SPAM sandwiches.
(mustard only, of course)

Mailwasher, used to be free. Downloads headers only and allows
bouncing, if you choose, which is a reply that there is no such
address. Also, my isp has various levels you can choose for keeping
out the riff-raff.

Mailwasher's "bounce" feature is a scam in itself and sends the "bounces" to
whatever is listed in the From line of the spam; which is usually an
innocent party having nothing to do with the spam.
If it weren't for that fact, it'd be a good app. But they KNOW about the
problem and refuse to fix it; been like that for years.
I, and many others like me who only look at headers, not the content of
spam, will report such "bounces" as the spam they are, even though
unintentional, and sometimes that gets innocent users to lose their email
accounts. Maybe they've recently fixed it; but I doubt it; they've had that
phoney feature since day one.
There are other, more reliable and useful programs out there.
