Default Help re stop cock

Thank you David. I wasn't sure if it went off immediately or if I would
have to wait for it to drain out. As "fairly obvious" as it might have
been to others, it wasn't to me.

If I turn off the water at the stop cock, how long (roughly) should it
take for the water to drain out? (For a 2 bed, 1 level property using a
combi boiler). I'm not sure that our stop cock is working and thought I
should check how long I should be letting it drain before calling a
plumber.

Well either it works or it doesn't - just like a normal tap. Fairly obvious
really.

The OP may be draining her cold water tank though?

She needs to check the kitchen tap, which should certainly be fed direct
from the mains - then when the stop cock is turned off, then the kitchen
tap will go off simultaneously.

But even if she's draining the water tank, it's not likely to take more
than say 15-30 mins before the water stops?
