Default Commercialising the Approved Douments!

I was about to re-check the tables for joist dimensions in floors -
this used to be in the appendices of Approved document A

Free to browse, download etc.

The new version of document A has chopped those appendices and refers
instead to a TRADA publication.

Go look up the publication:

http://www.trada.co.uk/techinfo/libr...&Submit=Search

and it's available to TRADA members only - that information used to be
public domain!

You can of course buy the printed version for 21 quid

For now the old version of approved document A is still available
online - but with no guarantee that the info meets current
requirements.

I'm livid about a public document, paid for by my taxes being ripped
off like this.

AIUI the timber span tables always were produced by TRADA. They've
decided they want their ball back.

The difference in spans between a C16 and a SC3 timber is minimal, so it
would only be if a joist or rafter was within a couple of inches of its
limit that it would cause a problem.
