Default Building insurance with (DIY) public liability

Just read my policy documents again (Liverpool Victoria) and I seem
to have a £2mil liability cover. DIY work isn't mentioned so I
presume I'm covered.

The works will probably take about three/four months and I won't be
moving in until it's completed - although I'll be on site almost
everyday.

Is it worth finding more a specialised insurer? Can anyone recommend
one?

Presumably you've already got a buildings policy which covers you for
having an empty property (the fact that you visit it daily is not the
same thing as living there, in insurance-speak)?

yes, OP must mention this else the policy would likely be invalid.

Also, I suspect that
your policy won't cover you for any damage to the building incurred by
your efforts - I think there's usually small print that means that
'accidental damage' is limited to stuff like a broken window rather than
a house collapsing because the owner 'accidentally' took out the wrong
wall... I doubt you'll find a policy which does cover you for that sort
of stuff TBH, if you're not a pro tradesman. I once looked around a bit
a while ago, and couldn't find anything suitable.

When I last asked they were very interested in whether I was planning
to underpin. Insurance for that has its limits, as only ones relatives
can benefit.
