Hold a light up near the front of the screen. If you can see the
picture,
you probably have a backlight problem. Usually the inverter board is
bad
and is not supplying the high-voltage AC required by the backlight
lamps.
Sometimes they can be repaired, but they are available on the WEB.
Check the small SMD fuse on the board and make sure that you are
getting 12VDC to the board. Check for bad electrolytic capacitors.
