Default Bridgeport Mill Question

I have just acquired a bridgeport mill. Is the quill supposed to
retract when the lever is released (like on a drill press) ?

Also what do people recommend for converting single phase power to 3
phase?

Thank you

The spring does not retract the quill on a Bridgeport. It counterbalances
it. It should theoretically not move from where you set it. If you have a
1hp motor, go buy a VFD from http://www.dealerselectric.com TECO Westing
House units are great value.

Also, for you Bridgeport fans, be sure to order the catalog from High
Quality Tools, http://www.hqtinc.com great supplier of OEM Bridgeport
parts and their catalog has an exploded parts list for the Step Pulley
and the Variable Pulley machines.
