Are you absolutely sure about the property line? It's been my experience
(in
several states) that except for numbered state highways, the property
actually runs into the road, and the road is on an easement. Do you have a
plat for your land, and at least one surviving corner marker to work
backward from?

Mine is about four feet shy of the road. Original pins are still in the
ground. Last house same way. I guess it can vary by state or very old
roads.
