Big box stores have some in hardware section. Also look for garage door
springs as well as fence and gate stuff.
Garage door springs would be inexpensive and perfect for the job if
you have the length available to mount them, because of the 'caging'
wires on modern springs that will keep the two (or three) pieces of
the newly broken spring restrained on the unit.
I don't care how fast you are, if an uncaged spring breaks and a
chunk heads your way, it's impossible to 'Duck And Cover' fast enough.
