Default oil spots under Maytag washingmachine

I have a 7tr old Maytag washing machine and have noticed smaill oil spots
underneath the front of it... I turned it over and there is a cylindrical
plastic cover that covers what looks like a flywheel with the belt around it
that seems to be the source of the leak... I am thinking that this cover
contains the oil which is used to lubricate the transmission..

Does anyone have any idea if I am correct? I have also read that a small
amount of oil under a washing machine is normal..

Thanks for your help

This is Turtle.

i'm not a Washing Machine Expert by no ways, but I will say this.

Washing Machine Transmissions are not suppose to leak oil.

When it run out of oil due to the leaks , it will lock up.

Go a head and run it for it might be 5 or 10 years before it runs out
of oil to lock up.

Take the leaking of oil under your washing machine as the same thing as
leaking oil under your car. if you don't replace the oil. it will lock
up in the future.

i would run it and when it locks up, i would buy a new one.
