Great, or so I thought, then I discovered they wanted about 100 quid for
the lamps alone! Complete ripoff merchants IMO. These lamps cost pennies
to make.

Well not pennies, but not very much either. Most of the lamps run $10-$20
each, GBP100 is ridiculous.

Have you tried anywhere that does laptop repairs ? Friend of mine does, and
quite a few get scrapped for insurance claims - liquid spillage in them
etc - so he usually has some lying around.

Where possible, he rescues the displays complete, to use to repair ones that
come in with their displays broken, but he still has ones laying about where
the display is damaged, but the lamps are ok. Got to be worth a look in
yellow pages, and a few phone calls ...
