Believe that it is usually the largest diameter that it can drill to
the center of, in other words, twice the distance from the column to
the chuck.

Of course if the Sears air compressor rating squad ever gets ahold of
it, they'll rate a drill press at 40 or 50 feet because you can drill a
hole through the side of something that long
