Yes, the tape goes in all the right places, but as soon as it does,
it
reels
back in and ejectes.

The only odd part in this cycle is a "double touch" of the pinch
roller on
the right side (takeup in play and FF). It sort of touches, backs
up a
couple of mm and touches again, after whch it starts the ejection
cycle.

Could be the mode switch as another poster suggested. Could be an
end-of-tape sensor. Could be the take-up reel not turning (check
belts,
rubber drive parts). Let us know...
