I don't know if hot tubs count as swimming pools, but according to one of
the How To Sell A House programmes, one of the biggest turn-offs for buyers
in this country is an outside swimming pool. A lot of people *hate* them.
I know global warming's coming, but I think a sauna would be more practical,
especially it access from the house can be arranged. And if the OP's missus
loses interest in using it after a while, it's ripe for conversion into a
super-insulated shed.
