haven't explained WHY.

Is it because you haven't heard of C-Plan [See
http://content.honeywell.com/uk/homes/systems.htm ] and associate gravity
circulation with the boiler being on all the time, whether required or not,
and with no control over the HW temperature, so that it rises to near boiler
temp?

If so, gravity systems don't *have* to be like that!
