Just had the oil tank filled today - and now noticed that the oil burner is

making
a grinding noise - like a bearing is broken or something like it. It is an

noise, like rasp rasp... rasp rasp...

When it first starts it burns quietly - then after about 20 seconds starts

this noise.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks...

You may need to bleed the oil from the pump. Look for a "brake
bleeder" fitting. Put a container underneath to catch the oil. BE
SURE the furnace is turned OFF when you do it. Just let it gravity
feed until all the air is out.

Sucking air into those pumps makes a noticable sound like you
described.

While you're at it, change the oil filter too.

Crack open the bleed screw, and attach a small rubber hose to it. Run hose into
a small can. Turn up the thermostat to energize the burner, it won't light
with the bleed screw open. It will pump fuel out the bleed screw, and any
trapped air in the line. Let pump run 15-30 secs, close bleed screw. Burner
should light almost immediately. You're done.
