Default Sears

Folks, I think this is great that they would do this! I'm sure that there
are other company's out there that do this too. Just thought I'd pass it
along to our NG.

I assume you have all seen the reports about how Sears is treating its
reservist employees who are called up? By law, they are required to hold
their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a
big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up...Sears is
voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all
benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called
up reservist employees for up to two years. I submit that Sears is an
exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution.

Suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell them
why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement it well
deserves.

Pass it on.

So I decided to check it out before I sent it forward. I sent the
following e-mail to the Sears Customer Service Department:

I received this e-mail and I would like to know if it is true. If it is,
the Internet may have just become one very good source of advertisement
for your store. I know I would go out of my way to buy products from Sears
instead of another store for a like item even if it was cheaper at the
other store..
Here is their answer to my e-mail.......................
?

Dear Customer:

Thank you for contacting Sears.

The information is factual. We appreciate your positive feedback. Sears
regards service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices our young men
and women can make. We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they
bear at this time.

Please pass this on to all your friends, Sears needs to be recognized for
this outstanding contribution and we need to show them as Americans, we do
appreciate what they are doing for our military

Yes that's very good of Sears to do that. Now if they could just stop
putting their name on inferior garage door openers.

It is silly not to buy major purchases at Sears if they carry the item.
They will match price and guarantee satisfaction. Ever try to get
satisfaction as Best Buy?

No, but the dealer down the block sure gives me great service. Same day
delivery. Let me tell you about the time the freezer died . . . . . Would
Sears give you a loaner? Within an hour?

Sears near me would probably have a freezer out by the next day and with
some dry ice that would be good enuf. But if you have a great small dealer
near you, might as well use him. Most people shop at Best Buy and Walmart
these days which is unfortunate in my opinion.

My former company did that for me also on both occasions of being called up
after 9/11. They also paid the difference between my pay at work and the
basic pay. (then they laid me off on the following Veterans Day - reeks of
irony)

But.. unless you are taking in more than about 18-20 bucks an hour at your
regular job you are not taking a pay cut. Do not be fooled by what basic
pay consists of. You get paid to maintain your house (pay rent) not to
mention other benefits; separation pay if you are married, etc. All of
these "extra" moneys are tax free also. I was making money and I was at a
18 an hour position at the time.

my .02 euro...

[worn out story about Sears, military pay, etc.]

Why post this kind of stuff here? I wager you didn't do your own research,
but are just passing on some drivel that arrived in your email. That makes
you a spammer.

Want a more accurate story about "military friendly" employers - read this:

Sears doesn't make the top ten in terms of overall support of the military
employee.
