Medicare was just fine until the Republicans started dismantling
it a couple decades ago. Leading to the current mess.

Universal health care works quite well in Canada, the UK,
Down Under, and in many other countries; I don't see why
it can't work here as well. Can't be worse than the current
system.

According to an update posted to the CDC'S travel notices page on April
2, the agency has listed Canada as a Level 4 health risk due to the
infection high rate of more than 100 new cases per 100,000 people over
the past 28 days. The advisory warns: "Because of the current situation
in Canada, even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting
and spreading COVID-19 variants and should avoid all travel to Canada."

I'm not sure if this would be an endorsement for health care in Canada.

I don't see anything there related to health care in Canada. They
have ignorant rednecks that won't mask just like we do.

Every country has theirs. :~)

But I would think a better health system would have a better inoculation
ratio, easier to get inoculated, therefore fewer infections.

The vaccine manufacturers have prioritized deliveries to the US over
other countries, including Canada.

But that's par for the course, it seems, for trump supporters.
Like all lefties, you're simply a liar. Nothing new here.

This is really weird.

My newsreader says Im reading rec.woodworking but it seems

No problem, DerbyDad. Just wait un til the Demorats get around to their
Medicare single-payer system.

What I'm waiting for is a time when people can have a on-line discussion without
using terms like Demorats, Rethuglicans, lefties/liars, MAGA maggots, etc.

You know, like the type of discussion that most people - even those participating in
this discussion - have when face-to-face with their family, neighbors and co-workers.

I'm waiting for a time when people *type* the same thing that they would *say* if
they were in the same room with the person they disagreed with. Making the same
points, just making them in a civilized manner. Not grouping huge portions of the
population into one pile and then referring to them *all* with a derogatory term.

I'd bet all my woodworking equipment that the people who insult entire groups of
people end including someone very close to them - Grandma, Dad, Daughter, etc.
People to which they would never *say* what they typed if they were face to face
with that person.

This is NOT the same link I found yesterday, but close. IIRC the 20.9
was from 2017 or 2018 in the one I cited. This one is very close to
that figure and shows the lag time to be increasing. I think the 20.9
was an average over all specialties. Oncology was around 4 weeks and
orthopedic was almost 40 weeks. As in everything else YMMV depending
upon what ails you and local availability of medical professionals.

If we're talking about the mask protecting MJE from you transmitting the
virus, I don't buy the mask wearing. OTOH, I will go along with me
wearing one to decrease the odds of me infecting you should I pick up
the virus and be asymptomatic.

We can argue about one party or the other exerting control, but to say
that's the impetus for mask wearing in the current climate is rather
ignorant. How many times in the past, hundred plus years have you seen
or heard of surgical procedures conducted by personnel who were not
masked. They're not wearing the mask to protect themselves.

As for the comment somebody made about the folks driving alone in their
cars wearing them. Yeah, about the only thing that is good for is a laugh.

Ever consider that the person simply forgot to take it off?

If you ever saw me driving alone while wearing a mask, it wouldnt be
because of any attempt to protect myself. It would simply be that I
forgot to take it off. Ive also forgotten to put one on.

Feel free to laugh, but you just might be laughing based on an incorrect

I under stand not being a carrier, internally, but the virus can live
outside your body for an indefinite period of time. this is why we see
disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer at most businesses and why the CDC
still want all to wear masks.

So an infected person opens the hardware store door, just after he
sneezes and covers his mouth and nose with his hand.

You grab that handle too as you open the door.

Then you scratch your face or rub your nose or worse yet, lick the
chocolate off of your fingers. It being Spring, you have allergies and
sneeze. An uninoculated person walks through the atomized sneeze zone
and he becomes infected.

A stretch? Yeah but so was the world being paralyzed by this virus...
S___ happens.

One can only surmise that those wearing masks, in their cars, have a
very bad case of gas, stinky gas AAMOF. The mask is saturated with a
deodorizer.

Think about THAT next time you see someone driving with a mask. ;~)

Hummm.. No doubt and that would normally be because the system that they
are delivering to is better. Better equipped to pay for the drug,
better equipped to receive and distribute the drug, maybe a better
health system...

What ever the reason, the health care here is better than the health
care there.

ratio, easier to get inoculated, therefore fewer infections.

BUT! being inoculated does not prevent you from contaminating some one
else.* It just means you personally will probably not get sick when you
are exposed again.

Actually, Leon, there was a study just report over the weekend or early
this week claiming that if you're fully inoculated with the Covid-19
vaccine you are highly unlikely to be a carrier of the virus.
Personally, I'm following the masking and washing guidelines until a lot
more time has passed. Take it all with a grain of salt.

wearing one to decrease the odds of me infecting you should I pick up
the virus and be asymptomatic.

Don't believe it.

Surgical masks are cloth bandanas with the nose sticking out. They're
used by trained staff. You don't see everyone washing their hands,
like surgeons and not touching *anything* that isn't sterilized,
either. It's all bogus and has been since the beginning.

As for the comment somebody made about the folks driving alone in their
cars wearing them. Yeah, about the only thing that is good for is a laugh.

Or a walk in the park, or...
How about the banning of the above?

Good grief, we are a country of nothing but sheeple.

No.

Tell that to the health care workers.

Healthcare workers know how to wear masks and don't use bandanas as
masks. It really is silly/sad.

They

The vaccine manufacturers have prioritized deliveries to the US over
other countries, including Canada.

Hummm.. No doubt and that would normally be because the system that they
are delivering to is better. Better equipped to pay for the drug,
better equipped to receive and distribute the drug, maybe a better
health system...

What ever the reason, the health care here is better than the health
care there.

No, it really is about who paid for it. The US (and UK) taxpayers
paid for the development and production. They get the first whack at
it. Canada and the EU could have forked over cash but *DECIDED* to
wait and see. Ok, wait.

This is exactly correct. Cooties are approximately 10 nano meters big.
Bacteria around 100 nano meters. A micron is 1000 times bigger than a
nano meter. The best cootie masks are a joke against a cootie. The
underwear most fools are sporting are not only stupid, it's a flag
saying look how stupid I am.

The only time I wear the mask is if I'm sanding on my lathe. I guess it
helps a bit keeping saw dust, at least the bigger stuff, out of my lungs.

When I was a kid, I used to paint cars and trucks, and would wear a
cloth mask, similar to what goof balls are wearing to stop the cooties.
ALWAYS my nose would take on whatever color I was painting, and I would
spit that color for around a day. Paint spray is HUGE compared to a
cootie, and I would love to see these dumb SOB's wear one (or two, or 3)
of their dumb ass cootie masks while spray painting a car..

This whole entire thing is a joke. The death count is stupid wrong.
550,000 Amerikans supposedly killed by the cooties, twice as many as
died in WWII. If this were true, then the death rate would have gone way
up, but it hasn't changed at all.

I still personally know no one that died from it, and I'm old, my family
and friends are old. I personally know two people that supposedly
caught the cootie, and one had a headache and the ****s for a day or
two. The other said she had a hard time breathing for a few days.

I know no one that EVER had the flu that needed a test to determine if
they had it. I had it once, and like everyone else that had the flu, I
KNEW damn well what it was, no test required. BTW, no one has caught the
"regular" flu since the cootie came around. Pretty cool huh.

No, and I don't bitch if a merchant requires a mask, either. I
dislike it immensely but it's their establishment. I can go in or

have ignorant rednecks that won't mask just like we do.

Every country has theirs. :~)

But I would think a better health system would have a better inoculation
ratio, easier to get inoculated, therefore fewer infections.

BUT! being inoculated does not prevent you from contaminating some one
else. It just means you personally will probably not get sick when you
are exposed again.

Masks are nothing more than a visual symbol of
our acquiescence and subservience to democrats'
power over us. You think they'll ever give this
up?

No.
If you ever saw me driving alone while wearing a mask, it wouldnt be
because of any attempt to protect myself. It would simply be that I
forgot to take it off. Ive also forgotten to put one on.
Have you forgotten to take one off in your car?

Yes
Amazing. I've never worn mine long enough to get anywhere near my
car. It comes off the instant I leave the place the lawyers have told
them that everyone has to comply. ...even though state law
indemnifies them against suit.

Mid-winter, snow blowing, both hands full of the items I just bought.
Mask on, keeps face warm in the parking lot. Not worth the trouble to
take it off "the instant" I leave the store. It also doesn't bother me
to leave it on. Shows that I'm a Bills fan. I hear lots of "Go Bills" on
the way to my vehicle.

I don't wear any advertisements, even sports teams. Snow? I find it
difficult to breathe with one on, particularly if it's warm (inside)
and even harder to see.

If it's hard for you to see when wearing a mask, you might be wearing it
wrong. ;-)

Not often, but on occasion, I get in the van and start driving. I don't
think I've ever made it out of the parking lot with it on, but to answer
the question asked, the answer is "Yes, I've forgotten to take it off".

Amazing.
I would imagine it also matters whether or not one feels it's worth
the mental energy to think of it as being a sheep vs. thinking of it
as "It can't hurt to wear a mask, so why not?"

It can hurt. Bacteria aren't anything to sneeze at either. Masks are
a huge breeding ground. Doctors don't wear _one_ all day. Some
people even wear gloves. Double dumb.

I don't wear _one_ all day either. I have washable masks and disposable
masks. MD's, nurses, PT's, etc. also have washable masks and disposable
masks. Time-wise, they are wearing masks for substantially more hours
than I ever will. I'm exposed to (mostly) my own bacteria during those short
stretches when I wear a mask. They are exposed to some pretty nasty stuff
(and people) day in and day out. There is really no comparison.

I've got nothing against those that chose not to wear one. I don't
call them names, I just let them be and wear my mask when required,
and sometimes even when not.

Likewise, I don't care if others wear them but I still reserve the
right to laugh at them.
"No shirt, No shoes, No service" Anybody still bitching about that?

No, and I don't bitch if a merchant requires a mask, either. I
dislike it immensely but it's their establishment. I can go in or
not. I can still laugh at them.
