Corian Router table insert?

I'm building a variation of Norm's Router table and have a corain sink cut
out from my laundry room sink. Its big enough to make three inserts. has
anyone used corian?
Also with the debate still going on routers I'm think Hitachi over PC. I
have a 610 but want something bigger for the table.

James,

I have not used corian for a base plate, but my builder took that same
cut out from our sink and cut it into 2 cutting boards (approx. 18" x
18"). They put rubber feet in each corner and I have noticed that it
has bowed. If you're going to make a router insert out of it, try to
keep the dimensions down.

i built my entire router table out of corian. but i made the insert
out of 1/2" lexan. it needs to be on a solid underframe. i used 6/4
oak for the framework and glued the corian to it. sure makes a nice
top.

I can't imagine a worse surface for a cutting board. It will kill your knives,
and won't clean properly.

The latest research shows wood is a better surface for cutting boards than
plastic).t actually cleans (re. bacteria) better than plastics.

Do you want your handplanes and chisels to impact corian? Don't think so. The
same with a good knfie.

You are absolutely right about that. I have a good set of Henkels and
it will take the edge off real fast, so we generally don't use them
for a cutting board. They do come in handy for tenderizing meat or
for baking thought, because they fairly large. But, your observation
is right on the money.
