Default Plans for a range/shooting box?

Google is my friend, but turns out there is not much out there in this case.

Anybody here made their own shooting box? I want to make one using traditional woodworking
materials and techniques, and am looking for some ideas. I currently use a box with a lift out tray
to carry everything but the shooting irons themselves, and want something a bit larger and well,
fancier - a bragging piece if you will. I primarily shoot muzzleloaders in primitive shoots, so
prefer a design/materials that could fit into the 1750 - 1840 era.

I'm looking for ideas, pictures or even a plan someone has drawn up for a box with a drawer or two
to hold small stuff, a large area to hold large items like powder cans and other large items. Would
also like a cradle for cleaning at the end of the day. My current thoughts tend toward modifying
the design of a small machinist style toolbox

Having said all that, I am also interested in building a range box or two for cartridge firearms,
both long and short. My current cartridge range attire consists of a couple of ammo cans and
individual hard/soft cases. I'd like to be able to mount a spotting scope for long guns (although
if my eyes get worse, might need them for handguns eventually), tote 2-4 pistols, an afternoon's
worth of ammo, shooting glasses, muffs, hold various small parts and cleaning supplies, etc. Might
need wheels and a small engine for propulsion

Emails welcome, but note that the email address is munged, but shouldn't be difficult to figure out.
Pics or plans could be posted to alt.binaries.pictures.woodworking so others looking for ideas could
benefit too.

Much obliged for any suggestions or help.

Regards,
Roy

I'm not sure just what you're looking for. You're a bit vague on
that. You also didn't say if you're shooting long guns, or not, but I
would think so. However... I'd possibly want something like these.

And, something like this would probably work to shuffle them around.

Or, you could go with something like one of these.

But, I think something along these lines would be even better.

Personally, I think you'd probably have been further ahead by
asking one of the shooting newsgroups rather than here.

Thanks for the links, JOAT.

Here's the single link for plans I found after about an hour of looking yesterday. Probably work
pretty well for cartridge guns. I do tend to get side-tracked while Googling:

Not sure what I'm looking for myself for black powder, but this is close. Maybe add a drawer or two
on the bottom or along one side, and a drop front like on a machinists chest.

Yep, posted to alt.rec.guns and rec.guns separately. Seems the Houston RR system has eliminated
crossposting to any groups in the same message. New subject of discussion over on
alt.online-services.roadrunner. Not all locations are affected. Sorry, gone OT here.

Looks like the plans the NRA put out years back. Of course, you
could make it longer for a rifle. Probably only be good for one at a
time tho. This wouldn't be bad for a gun chest.
http://www.angelfire.com/wy/svenskil.../vikchest.html I think
one or two, and use something like the covered wagaon plans for haulng
aroud. You could always make a standing rack in it.

Not crossposting is good. I think they should make smacking the
hand with a ball bat punishment for crossposting.

Something off-topic IN a post, no prob. It's polite to label any
off-topic post as OT tho. Of course, none of this applies to all the
sad little trolls. They figure they're immune from all rules and
convention. Anyway, going OT in a thread, often leads to some of the
best threads.

If all you want is something with the rifles standing upright, I'd
possibly like something like a large powerwheel, and power it. That'd
give you a place to sit.

If I can ever justify sparing the money for a barrel, I'd like to
start on making a BFG, one cartridge, and one muzzleloading. I've got
me an Atlas lathe I bought new about 30-35 years ago, and it's never
been uncrated.

You only need two tools: WD-40, and duct tape. If it doesn't move and
it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Hmmm, I like a couple of those. Hadn't thought about a range box, but
then again, I usually only take one gun with me when out target
practicing (2 if the wife comes out to play as well).

Personally, I'm gonna go with the musket case type, but using
plywood - they will probably be knocked around some, and stored out of
sight, so durability ia primary over purty. One will be made for 3 air
rifles, side by side. One will be for 2 air rifles, side by side. The
rest for single guns.

For some reason your post brought to mind something I've seen
before. A golf bag type carrier (maybe one converted), holding a box at
the bottome, with ammo, and various supplies, and up to about 4-5 long
guns standing. Grab the handle and pull it, and it stood upright when
you stop. Not the most beautifule thing in the world, but very
functional. Should be able to pick up one of them used, cheat, and easy
to customize. Here's an example.
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
It'll work, but not much class.

Now, if you want some class, here's some examples. This popped up
using GUN CART for a google search.
http://www.kansascas.com/gun_carts.htm

And, this was the next thing to pop up.
http://www.kansascas.com/gun_cart_plans.htm Google is our friend.

Now, if you really wanted to be classy, I'd say make a miniature
covered wagon to carry all your gear, then get six or eight miniature
horses to pull it. Now that would be class.
