Default 2 & 4 Drawer File Cabinet Plans

Guys,

I've been looking for detailed plans for two and four drawer
file cabinets. I am not particular as to whether they're free
or charged, I'm simply not having much luck so far finding
plans.

TIA,

Jeff

DAGS on file cabinet plans and you'll find some. Remember - google is your
friend.

I don't have any plans but I'll give you my notes on sizes from having
built them in the past:

FILE DRAWER SIZES

16" minimum interior width for legal size.
10" high drawer box with 1/2" bottom and 1/2" reveal below
This allows 1/4" below drawer box and 1/4" above the tab for total
height of the opening of 11 3/4"

It is easy to adjust this for letter size.

Something to note is what sort of hardware you will use if you are
going to use hanging files.

There are several types. The simplest overlays a 1/2" drawer side but
I always used thicker stock, so I used the type that fit into a groove
run into the tops of the sides.

This comes in at least two flavors. I've used the plastic but prefer
the straight metal type for more than occasional use.

Make sure you leave enough room for tabs above the file folders

Fine WoodWorking did a cover story on these files with measured
drawings in the latter part of 2004.My copy is buried in preparation
for moving.

Go to taunton.com , then go to FWW and do a search. You can probably
buy just that story with the drawings online.

Mike, I've done some Google searching, and just didn't find what I "think"
I'm looking for.

Tom, thanks for the sizing info, appreciate it.

Gary, thanks for the Taunton tip. I ended up going to Amazon and getting
two
books that I guessing will be a big help before I start this project, which
is gutting
my office and ending up with new wiring and lighting, and two walls of
computer
desk, file cabinets, storage and shelving.

I guess it's all a matter of taste. I did the search and the first set of
plans it came up with was a cabinet that I thought was the nuts - was sure
you'd find it great too. Shows how much I know, huh?

I would have measured the file folders and made 2 or 4 boxes around
them and then another box around those. I don't know anything either
though.
